Turn Your Setback Into A Comeback

Coming back from a setback is arguably one of the most challenging things for anyone to do. The word ''setback'' actually means a slowing down of progress or a lack of growth. Similar to Newton's first law of motion which states, ''An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.'' For example, a ball that is being rolled will continue rolling unless an external force causes it to stop. This principle can also be applied to our daily lives. Sometimes we find ourselves making steady progress; we are climbing the educational ladder, getting the promotions, buying our dream house/car, or whatever the case may be. Suddenly, we find ourselves being intercepted by someone or something. This could be a life-changing event such as the loss of a loved one, the death of our career, or some bad turn of events. Oftentimes, these experiences leave us floored. It may also make us feel a sense of powerlessness and a feeling of giving up on everything we have worked hard for. Personally, Twenty-twenty-one was one of the most challenging years for me. I found myself in a season of ''setback'' I wasn't making the growth that I wanted to make and things just seemed to be going haywire. At times these setbacks caused me to feel like giving up or made me think that I had failed. Interestingly, while I felt these feelings of failure, and a sense of loss, God was giving me the grace to go through it. I felt His assurance that I was not alone. For me, that was very satisfying. I knew at that moment that came hell or high water I was going to be fine. I also want to add, that though setbacks are challenging and painful, there are valuable lessons that we can learn at the moment. Here are a few:
1) Do not allow your circumstance to cause you to react
2) Trust God even when things don't seem like they are going to work out
3) Own, and take responsibility for your decisions
4) Thank God for the setbacks
5) Trust God that He is going to take you through it
6) Pray, pray, and pray some more.
7) Forgive yourself, and remember that you are human.
8) Share with others who may be going through the same thing
9) Know that all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose ( Romans 8: 28).
I know 9 is an odd number but that's all I have for you right now.
The truth is, as much as some of us would like to think that we are perfect we really aren't. We may pride ourselves on thinking that certain things couldn't happen to us until it's staring us in the face. So maybe you have not experienced a setback, but that doesn't mean you won't experience one. Maybe you are going through a set, and you are wondering, ''why am I going through this?'' Just know that God is going to take you through it. Or perhaps you are like me, and you are coming back from a setback. My word to you is ''congratulations'' you made it.
I'm interested to know what lessons you have learned from your ''setback (s)''
