Attacking New Year’s Resolution

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

Well, what do you know? 2022 is here and we are super grateful, thankful, and excited that we have lived to see another year. So why not jazz it up with some new year’s resolutions! Right? Well, the problem with that is, most of us really do not keep them. At the start of the new year most of us are fascinated and over the moon with the possibilities of what is to come. Some of us even have unfulfilled projects and visions that we want to see materialized; like completing university, completing car/ house payments, adding on to that house, completing that book, losing that extra 10lbs, improving our prayer life, going on broad-way, and the list goes on. In truth we have already set the goals; we know what we need to achieve but accomplishing the task is the big hurdle that we have to climb. My thing is if we have been doing something a particular way over a period of time and we see that it’s not giving us the desired results then it is time to change the script. So as I thought about the concept of how to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves for 2022, I had an epiphany- think about this, ‘’ As a DNA replicates to reproduce more cells that are vital for the replacement of lost cells, what if we could develop and replicate the self-discipline needed to accomplish the goals we have set ahead for ourselves? What would that reproduction look like? Do we really have the guts or the stick-to-itiveness to accomplish the goals that we have set for 2022? Then it dawned on me, ‘’what if we allowed the word of God to replicate in and through us, what would our outcome be? How could we represent Christ better? Could it be that we might experience the never-ending possibilities of God manifested glory in our lives? I sincerely believe the manifested presence of God has no boundaries to what is possible in your lives if we allow Him to truly transform us. Romans 12 verse 2 states, ‘’ Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.’’ This suggests that the world has a view that is not a reflection of what God wants in our life. On the contrary, it is an imitation of the real thing. However, by allowing God to transform us through the renewing of our minds we will be able to unravel the perfect will of God for our lives. But what does this like? Again this task requires, ‘’Self Discipline,’’ because nothing that will make an everlasting impact or that will be insightful comes easily; so one has to press and pursue earnestly in order to experience this glorious transformation. The word of God encourages us to, '' seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you'' ( Matthew 6:33). Therefore, let us continue to seek God's righteousness so we will acquire the ''self-discipline'' that will serve to transform our goals, and aspirations into a reality. Shalom
