The Praying Mantis is one of the most fascinating animals! Separate from the fact that they are able to camouflaged themselves; adapting colors that help them blend with plants, and their amazing body shape, they are also very patient creatures. This virtue is what has enabled them to become masters of catching their preys.
Like the Praying Mantis, the believer needs to also acquire this virtue. Patience is one of the primary pre-requisites for the Christian believer-a major fruit of the Spirit. But how can one acquire this virtue?
James poses a recommendation in chapter 1 of the book, ‘’ Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1:2-4). Here James is telling us to count it all joy when you fall into diverse trials because the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Perseverance here refers to patience.
Enduring the test, going through trials, and facing obstacles. Hence, we can conclude that, ‘’adversity’’ is a main predictor of patience. One person once said, ‘’God can use adversity as a tool to make us more steadfast, perfect and complete.’’ Some of us if not all of us can attest to the fact that adversity allows us to get closer to God, and brings us to that, ‘’Secret Place’’ in God. So, whatever, our adversity is let us embrace it because God is able to bring us out.
What strategy have you used to overcome your adversity?
